The family of a young man stabbed to death in Howick has a message for his killers: “Have a heart and hand yourself in.”

Daryl Graydon died in the back of an ambulance after being stabbed several times while walking along Ridge Rd early on Saturday. more

Deaths set to outnumber births as population ages.

Deaths are likely to outnumber births in 26 of 73 local authority areas by 2031, according to research issued today by Statistics New Zealand.

Southland will be the worst off with a natural decrease of 1200 people.

Man who bit baby escapes prison

 

A Rotorua father being sentenced for biting his four-week-old baby mopped his tears with a handkerchief as he stood in Rotorua District Court dock today.Carl Anthony St Clair-Newman, 32, beneficiary, was ordered by Judge Chris McGuire to do 200 hours’ community work.

Blog: Living with breast cancer at 25.

Brenna Slee was 24, had just had a baby and was planning to get married when she was told she had an aggressive form of breast cancer in May.

This year should have been all about planning a wedding for Brenna and her partner Andrew Nation.

Kahui didn’t care about parteners affairs.

Chris Kahui says he learnt his partner Macsyna King was having affairs with other men only after the death of their twins but refused to give a DNA sample to prove if he was their father, Manukau District Court was told.

The allegations of affairs came after three police interviews with Kahui were shown to the court.

Twins taken to McDonald’s, then doctor

The mother of the Kahui twins has told a court how she and the boys’ father took them to McDonalds before taking them to a doctor.

Macsyna King said that after discovering a fresh bruise on her son Chris’s cheek and learning her other twin son Cru had stopped breathing the night before, they took their sons to their family doctor after first visiting the fastfood restaurant.

Two arrested over West Auckland

toddler’s injuries

A man and a woman have been charged with cruelly treating a child who has spent the past six weeks in hospital getting treatment for broken bones.

The 18-month-old toddler was taken to Starship Children’s Hospital on June 23 with a broken thighbone, a broken right arm and severe bruising. Police said the injuries might have been caused a month before the child was admitted.

 Netball: No George in Ferns squad

 The New Zealand netball selectors have made no changes to their squad for the world championship in Auckland in November.

They today announced an unchanged squad of 12 who lost a recent test series 1-2 to Australia.

 Water utility Severn Trent has pleaded with customers living in central England to use water carefully after one of its treatment works had to be shut down due to flooding after torrential rain.

The company’s Mythe Water Treatment Works in Tewkesbury, which also serves the towns of Gloucester and Cheltenham, was submerged by rising flood water and was evacuated in the early hours of Sunday morning local time.

A Hawke’s Bay school this morning forced to close by rising floodwaters will remain shut tomorrow amid concerns over sewage.

Army unimogs earlier evacuated students stranded by flood waters at Puketapu and Maraekakaho schools.

Heavy rains have lashed the region overnight and through the morning with unexpected flooding closing roads and causing slips.

    That is where my aunt got married in 1993, my mum was a bridesmaid at Tewkesbury Abbey which is now six feet under water!!!
